Firearms Sales Surge Ahead Of November Election
Some buyers concerned that the next administration could tighten gun regulations.
http://img.coxnewsweb.com/B/00/15/47/image_7347150.jpg Austin-area firearms dealers may have the Democrats to thank for brisk sales this summer. The prospect that the next presidential administration might favor new gun-control laws has gun enthusiasts bringing dollars and concerns to local firearms stores ahead of the November election. Some Central Texans have been talking about laws from the 1990s - passed under a Democratic president and Congress - that restricted semiautomatic rifles, governed the sale of high-capacity magazines and mandated waiting periods before customers could receive handguns. Their worries have translated into higher sales at local gun stores, store owners say. Before the 1994 federal assault weapons ban took effect, buyers sought to purchase the rifles and magazines that would soon be illegal to buy in stores, leading to limited supply and higher prices. This summer, sales at McBride's Guns in Austin are 10 percent higher, compared with the same time last year, said store owner Joe McBride. "Our regular client base is very concerned about anti-gun legislation if the wrong people get elected," McBride said, adding "what they see as the wrong people." Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama supports reinstating the assault weapons ban, which expired in 2004, said spokeswoman Shannon Gilson. Obama also supports creation of a law that would require all sellers at gun shows to run background checks on their customers, she said. Currently, unlicensed individuals selling firearms at shows are not required to run background checks. Those sellers allow criminals to purchase guns without going through the background checks, Gilson said. Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, also supports requiring unlicensed sellers to conduct background checks, though he doesn't support restrictions on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, according to his Web site. Re: Firearms Sales Surge Ahead Of November Election
I'm very much concerned with the political appointments that will be made by the incoming president including potential Supreme Court appointments. Combined with a complicit congress and President, life could be miserable for gun owners.
Take care, Mod1 |

It used to be quite common to talk guns with friends. It's now time for people to not let their friends and neighbors know what they have.

Get training, take a hand gun class, then a tactical handgun class, and move on from there. Nothing beats being armed and trained. Malfunctions and misfires are a breeze to fix when you have been trained to clear them in a second. |
Re: Firearms Sales Surge Ahead Of November Election
ALL weapons are assault weapons.

If one wanted to get an AK without paperwork to track having it, what would be one's best bet? Florida is where one would live. Thanks

Re: Firearms Sales Surge Ahead Of November Election
Many times at local gun shows somebody knows somebody who wants to sell something... sometimes there are even private individuals with a gun hanging over their shoulder with a little flag saying "for sale". Gun shows are good places to find things.

Re: Firearms Sales Surge Ahead Of November Election
I once thought The Powers That Be would disarm Americans by staging mass shootings, but although this worked beautifully in Canada, The U.K., and Australia, it seems to have backfired here.
(I know a mixed-race guy who went out and bought his first gun right after the Virginia Tech shootings . . .) Now, post-Heller, I'm thinking they'll continue allowing us to arm ourselves, for a while, and then cut off the food supply, and institute some sort of "food for guns" program, with bonus ration points for people who snitch-out their gun-owning friends and neighbors. One way or another, they are going to get our guns. |
Re: Firearms Sales Surge Ahead Of November Election
Umm, allow me to modify my previous comment.
I think they might eventually pull something like that here in the cities and suburbs. I wasn't for one minute suggesting that you boys out in the sticks would ever give up your guns! Not that easily. |

Re: Firearms Sales Surge Ahead Of November Election
I have several friends who are selling off their firearms that are chambered in Comblock calibers and exchanging them for weapons chambered in standard western calibers.
The thought is that anti-ammo laws are going to be easier to pass than anti gun laws and the first thing will be an executive order banning the import of ammo. |
